Google News takes on a dull appearance for 2013

The results in Google News are now displayed in a black tone, rather than the bright green text which previously featured. The displaying of news results has been updated by Google to show the site name in black. Previously, the name of the site appeared in green, featuring beneath the URL link which was blue. Although other changes seem to have added features, this change makes the search results on Google News appear a little dull.

However, the emphasis has now been placed on the URL links which are in a bright blue, along with the images which accompany the search results. Google News was launched in 2002 to provide quality news articles in one place. News providers objected to Google News, with publishers in Germany and France allegedly claiming that displaying excerpts of their work in the search results is an infringement on their copyright.

Although there have been complaints about Google News, large amounts of site traffic is gained from the searches, and search engine optimisation features Google search and Google News as part of a company’s SEO campaign. In 2011 the Google News page was updated so that users could select the type of news they wanted to see most, along with choosing favourite topics.

The news content found on Google News is deemed to be trustworthy, adding credibility to a website. The design change to the site name seems to have been introduced to desktop PCs around the 9th January 2013.
