According to the Google Group Product Manager, Ken Norton, 97 percent of people obtain business information online. However, Norton also reveals that only 48 percent of businesses in New York have a presence on the Internet. As Norton believes that the Internet is a powerful tool for the development of a business, he and a team of colleagues from Google partnered with local and national businesses to launch “New York Get Your Business Online.”
Originally, Google contacted the mayor of New York and offered places on the programme for 120 people. However, 450 applied to take part in the scheme, and Google agreed to take the larger group.
Norton started working for a small business, which prepared him for his career with Google. The search engine giant has an interest in developing small businesses, as they are the driving force behind the economy, with two thirds of jobs being due to small business. A number of small businesses don’t have a website due to fears that it will be expensive and time consuming. Different types of businesses signed up for the programme, from new start-ups to established businesses and the programme is one that Google is promoting worldwide, including to cities like Liverpool.
Google has become a significant feature in everyday life, with people turning to the search engine giant for all information, from looking for a holiday to buying a house. Ensuring that a business has a place high in the search engine rankings is crucial, which is why a competitive SEO campaign is vital for a businesses success.
