YouTube tests out new podcast features

It looks like YouTube is set to put more focus on podcasting capabilities within its platform, as it’s currently testing out a new management feature within YouTube Studio.

This new feature will allow people to directly upload and also manage their podcasts within the YouTube Studio platform, which is where video creators upload and manage their videos. This new podcast-specific section will be accessed through the ‘Create’ section of the Studio, and users will also be able to view all of their podcast uploads in a new ‘Podcasts’ tab under the ‘Content’ section of the menu. As well as this, people will be able to mark any existing playlists as podcasts too by selecting the three-dot menu of the playlist and clicking ‘Set as podcast’.

What’s more, YouTube is also in the midst of testing out podcast-specific analytics, which will provide podcasters with performance analytics that relate to podcasts, and not videos in general, as is currently the case.

YouTube released a statement on the new feature test via its YouTube support page dedicated to new tests and experiments, writing:

“To make it easier for creators to distribute their podcasts on YouTube, we’re running an experiment that allows you to create a podcast or set an existing playlist as a podcast within Studio.”

The platform also explained that this test would currently only be undertaken with a select number of creators from around the world using YouTube Studio on a desktop device. However, if the test goes well, most likely it will not be long before it’s rolled out to further creators.

With the popularity of podcasts on the rise, this is a smart move from YouTube, and it may help podcast creators to get their episodes seen by more people within the platform, as they’ll be categorised as a podcast instead of a general video.
