Visit Wiltshire ranked best for social media use

An organisation in Wiltshire has been graded as the number one tourist board in England for social engagement, according to the results of a recent study.

The inaugural English Tourism Social Media Index, which ranks the 126 bodies responsible for tourism in the country, is determined by each site’s performance through their social media newsfeeds.

With the south of England dominating the table, Visit Wiltshire came top with a score of 74.2, with Visit Cornwall (73.4) and VisitLondon (73.1) ranked at second and third respectively.

However, Visit Peak District & Derbyshire was the only northern board to feature in the top ten, coming in at number eight (67.4).

Making up the rest of the list was Dartmoor Partnership in fourth (70.9), followed by Visit Thanet (70.3), Visit Norfolk (69.6) and Destination Milton Keynes (67.5), which surprised many to take seventh place. The top ten was completed by Visit Forest of Dean & Wye Valley (66.6) and Visit Greenwich (66.4).

Although the south trounced the north in the top 10 list, it also saw an entry propping up the table in 126th place. That dubious honour belonged to Destination Colchester, with the army town’s tourism body posting a paltry score of 11.42.

It was reported that Visit Wiltshire achieved its number one position thanks to a combination of factors, notably the breadth of the social channels used and its high engagement with customers across these platforms, which was driven by the diverse range of content being posted.
