Ecommerce and shopping

Shipping and returns information coming to search for e-commerce sites.

Google has released a new feature with the search engine results page (SERPs) for eCommerce sites.

A few months ago, Google began to show return and shipping information in search results snippets. However, this new feature has expanded upon this to show even more information.

The new feature is currently available only in the United States, but will soon be released to other countries. So, you may see this being shown in SERPs soon in the UK.

The image below shows how the new features in SERPs will look:

How can an eCommerce site get these snippets once they are released?

To get the snippets shown in your product listings within the search results, you have to implement structured data markup (also known as Schema). This enables you to give search engines more information about your website.

If your website uses Google Merchant Centre to show your products in Google Shopping, then the Shipping and Returns settings set in this platform will also be used.

Once the feature has been released within the UK, sites that have Google Search Console set up, which every website should have to see how well your site is performing in search results, will be able to see a new area within the ‘Merchants Listing’ section. This area shows if you’re missing “shippingDetails’ from the structured data on your product listings. So, this will enable you to fix this and will increase the chances of your products showing the shipping and returns data in SERPs.
