The third Google Search reviews update of the year has been posted, with the November 2023 update likely being the last search update Google will release.
The big takeaway from the latest update is that any future updates for the reviews system will be regular and ongoing. This means that Google won’t be updating the status dashboard anymore with review system updates.
The last reviews update back in April was the first time Google started calling these updates “Review Updates”, with them now referred to as “Product Review Updates” previously. The latest update includes mentions to any reviewable topic, including:
• Services and businesses.
• Destinations.
• Media (e.g., games, movies, etc.).
At the same time as Google is rolling out this update, it is also releasing the November 2023 Core Update, so websites may see impact from both of these updates. Unfortunately, this could make it harder for you to identify which update is affecting your website.
If your website publishes any form of review content, then you’ll need to make sure that you watch for this update. If your site is affected by this, you’ll need to follow the guidelines that Google have released with these updates, which is available with the Google Search Central Documentation.
