According to a report from Gadgets360, a new form of posting on Twitter is in the works, which would allow people to share longer pieces of text.
Currently, tweets on the social networking platform are limited to just 280 characters – although this is actually an improvement on original tweets, which were capped at 140 characters. As it stands, if you want to post a longer tweet, you have to do so in a thread, wherein you post multiple tweets that are replies to one another. While this is workaround, it has several disadvantages – not only is it messy, but people may not see all of the tweets in a thread, and at times they may see a random one, which on its own would make no sense.
Users of Twitter have long called for an extension to the current character limit, and according to one user, their calls may soon be answered in the form of ‘Twitter Articles’:
Twitter is working on “Twitter Articles” and the ability to create one within Twitter

The screenshot from the eagle-eyed user doesn’t give much away, but it looks as if this will be a separate type of content to a normal tweet, with its own dedicated tab. It’s likely from the name that it will be dedicated to blog-style posts, much like Facebook Instant Articles and articles on LinkedIn, and it could provide a new way for businesses to reach more people within the platform.
No official comments have been provided by Twitter as yet in regard to this new feature, so there’s no telling if or when it will be released – or even what it really is. However, Gadgets360 reports that the social media giant told CNET it would soon be sharing details about this new feature, so it’s well worth keeping an eye out for updates.
