Google has announced Google Merchant Centre is having a brand-new update which will be released by 2024.
What is Google Merchant Centre?
Google Merchant Centre is a platform available from Google that enables you to pull through the products on your eCommerce site so that they show up in Google Shopping and Google Ads. This tool is essential for any business that sells through their website as it can help to increase visibility and therefore sales.
What does this new update mean for Google Merchant Centre?
The new version will be more simplified compared to the current version. The main update to the platform is that you will no longer need to have a Google Product feed set up on your website to pull through the products to Google Merchant Centre. The products will be automatically populated from your website.
From the Google screenshots of the new platform, it looks like there will be more reports and therefore more data for digital marketers and ecommerce store owners to see how their products are performing in Google Shopping.
Why should you care about the update?
The new update means people who are less technical will be more easily able to setup Google Merchant Centre for their ecommerce website. Currently, setting up the feed and connecting it to the platform can sometimes be complicated, due to the format needed for Google to understand your products.
It also looks like the platform will pick up any ecommerce site – all you’ll need to do is setup an account with Google and then you’ll be able to see your products. If you don’t want your products shown, then you’ll be able to easily turn off the feature.
