In a recent update to its blog, The Keyword, Google announced the awaited rollout of its latest feature, AI Mode.
Beginning on the 29th July, AI Mode will be available to searches across the UK, following earlier launches in the US and India.
We first discussed the search engine giant’s announcement of this new search functionality in a blog we published in December 2024.
AI Mode first became available within Search Labs back in March this year, before rolling out to searchers across the US and later India.
Available on desktop and through the Google app, AI Mode brings a new tab to Google Search. This will allow users to switch between traditional and AI (artificial intelligence)-powered results.
You can read more on what AI Mode includes in our blog here.
Instead of a results page of blue web link results, this new feature provides users with more conversational responses to the questions asked.
AI Mode works by synthesising information from various sources across the web and combining it into a single response. This information is then displayed directly within the AI Mode interface.
This could result in a noticeable rise in zero-click searches. This is where users get the information they need, all within the search engine results page, without ever reaching the information source.
Due to this, website owners could experience a reduction in the number of clicks on certain pages, even when the content is visible and ranking the same in organic search results.
This shift presents the opportunity to increase the visibility and credibility of your website outside of traditional organic search results. This can help establish trust with your audience. When Google cites your content as a reliable source of information, this highlights your site as an authority in its field.
