Search engine giant, Google, is gearing up to launch a new feature within its search functionality.
This new feature, called “AI Mode”, will bring the advanced capabilities of Google’s AI (artificial intelligence) chatbot, Gemini AI, directly into the Google Search experience.
Search engine users can expect to see AI-powered overviews that synthesise information from various sources, multifaceted answers and results tailored to search history, preference or location.
Similarly, users can refine their search with contextually relevant follow up questions, for a more conversational search experience.
Currently, Gemini AI operates separately from Google’s main search engine, but fierce competition from rival AI chatbots, such as ChatGPT, have prompted Google to integrate Gemini’s features into their standard search.
This integration is likely to attract a larger audience, with access to the world’s most widely used search engine serving billions of users across the world each day.
According to a recent report published by The Information, Google plans to give users the option to toggle on this new AI Mode. It will feature an interface that closely resembles the Gemini AI chatbot.
Early reports also reveal that this new feature will be accessible via a dedicated button within the Google App. The button, marked with an icon of a magnifying glass and a star, will allow users to quickly switch between traditional and AI-enhanced search results.
This follows an announcement earlier this week that Google are experimenting with a new feature that allows users to attach files to searches made on Google.
