Some people have recently noticed that Google’s search bar looks slightly different to how it did previously. This is due to the rollout of the “Attach a file to ask about a file” search function.
This function has been tested and rolled out to a select few who will find a paperclip icon within the search bar, next to the familiar microphone icon, which represents voice search option, and the camera icon, which represents the lens search option.
This new paperclip icon, once clicked, will allow you to browse your device to upload a file in which you can use the Google search bar to ask the search engine anything you’d like to know about that particular file.
This feature comes as a bit of a surprise – though it isn’t necessarily uncommon in today’s world, where artificial intelligence (AI) is so prominent. However, this would be something you’d typically expect to see integrated into Google’s Gemini as opposed to an actual Google search option.
This was first shared on X by a user called Khushal Bherwani, who posted a screen recording of his findings.
There is no concrete information from Google on when (or even if) this will be rolled out to the masses, but it will definitely prove to be an interesting tool to use if it eventually becomes a Google search normality.
It will also be interesting to see how this kind of tool can be considered when it comes to SEO (search engine optimisation). If you’d like the help and support of a team of digital experts when navigating Google, reach out to Engage Web today.
