Anyone interested in search engine optimisation (SEO) will know the importance of a website ranking on page 1 of Google’s search engine results page (SERP).
That should be anybody with a website they claim to take seriously – which should mean any business desiring an online presence.
Well, if you’ve not been following development with Google’s SERPs over the last few years, you may not know that continuous scrolling has been the primary method of presenting search results rather than pages on both desktop and mobile devices.
However, this is soon to change, as Google is removing continuous scrolling as part of the latest changes to user experience.
These changes will come into effect on desktop, followed by mobile devices over the coming months.
A spokesperson for Google said the changes are designed to contribute to faster searches across a wide range of different searches, as well as to contribute to more relevant and satisfactory results for users.
Therefore, continuous scrolling will be replaced with pagination, which is the term used to separate search results into different pages.
Websites that don’t rank among the most relevant results for a particular search will return to subsequent pages, while the best performing sites will remain on page 1 of the SERPs.
