Daily reminders of lost loves removed by Facebook

For me, one of the best features of social networking website Facebook is the ‘photo memories’ section where it offers random pictures from the past that you have been tagged in, or from albums where you have featured or commented. The photos could be from friends you haven’t contacted in a while, or they could be from very fond memories of your past – I’ve often seen photos and been inclined to click through, have a browse and leave the odd comment.

It’s like a stroll down memory lane.

However, some people have noticed a small issue with the photo memories function of Facebook. It often throws up photographs of ex girlfriends, broken relationships and sometimes even people who have passed away (the latter not being an issue for me because I’m still happy to see photos of deceased friends).

The functionality has caused so much annoyance in fact that a Facebook group has cropped up protesting against it (what doesn’t have a Facebook group protesting against it these days?) and that has been noticed by the powers that be. The group, entitled ‘I HATE PHOTO MEMORIES’, now has over 1,000 members and Facebook has heard the complaints. According to Facebook’s Sam Odio, photo memories has now been amended. He commented:

“The photo memories product no longer shows tagged photos of your friends if you were previously in a relationship with them.”
