The term “digital marketing” itself is fairly self-explanatory. It’s using the internet, or more accurately, the web pages that make up the internet, in order to deliver advertisements, information and the opportunity to purchase to your consumers.
While it might be easy enough to explain what digital marketing is, it’s much harder to do it well. Many websites fall victim to the same mistakes, and as a result of that, they lose out on potential sales, and on awareness of their brand and products.
Good digital marketing requires a solid understanding of the way in which search engines work. While there have been lots of additions to the structure, the basic idea remains the same – the more frequently your website is viewed and searched for, the more relevant it becomes to future searches. This means that you need to have a good idea of how best to make your page show up in a search
This is known as search engine optimisation (SEO). Essentially, SEO is about making sure that your website is tailored to what your target audience wants and needs. There’s not much point to selling a product for 25-40-year-old males if your page and content doesn’t match up. By ensuring that your web page is optimised, you’ll see a potentially massive increase in web traffic, as your page moves higher and higher up the SERPs (search engine results pages).
Of course, there’s little value in gaining the awareness if your customers don’t know how to reach you. That’s why digital marketing is such a finely balanced act. It’s so important to make sure that you provide what’s known as a “call to action”, which is essentially telling your customer to visit your web page, come in store, or call you. The more enquiries you get, the more potential there is for an increase in sales.
