Parrot Care Group is a Newcastle-based bird specialist, supplying well-cared-for, healthy birds to both retail customers and pet shops across the UK.
Bird welfare is at the heart of what the team do. Alongside a wide choice of species, they take care of everything from quarantine procedures and veterinary checks to nationwide delivery and ongoing advice. Birds are very much their world, so whether someone is welcoming a new pet into the family or sourcing birds for their business, they have plenty of specialist knowledge to share.
As the business had grown, though, its website hadn’t quite kept up. The existing site no longer reflected the modern, professional business Parrot Care Group had become, so the new website needed to feel like a big step forward without losing the personality behind the brand. With so many colourful birds to work with, it made sense to give them a much bigger role in the look and feel of the site.
Readability was also a big priority. Bird care can be a detailed subject, and the website needed to share plenty of useful information with everyone from first-time owners to experienced bird keepers and trade customers. The team also wanted to make more of its specialist knowledge, giving visitors helpful advice alongside information about the birds themselves.
We gave the website a complete visual refresh, with a sleek, contemporary design that still feels full of character. Blue, taken directly from the Parrot Care Group branding, features heavily throughout and creates a strong backdrop for the naturally vibrant colours of the birds. Photography plays a big part too, with images of different species used across the website.
The homepage sets the tone straight away. We created a sky-inspired top section, complete with clouds moving across the screen, built entirely in code rather than using a standard animation or video. The large introductory heading is layered with images of parrots overlapping parts of the text, adding depth to the design and quite literally putting the birds centre stage.
Typography was chosen with the client’s concerns around readability firmly in mind. The typeface still has enough personality to create bold, characterful headings, while making sure longer sections of information remain clear and easy to read.
The finished website gives Parrot Care Group a much more distinctive online presence. It feels professional enough for a nationwide supplier while still making the most of the colour and personality that naturally comes with working with birds.
Just as importantly, it now does much more than simply showcase birds for sale. Visitors can explore the different species available, find out more about the company’s approach to welfare and aftercare and pick up useful guidance through its growing collection of articles.
Behind the scenes, everything is simpler too. Bird listings are much easier for the Parrot Care Group team to manage, so the website can keep growing and changing alongside the business without every update turning into a technical job. Overall, the new website is a much better fit for the business – and a site that’s ready to spread its wings!
