Why it matters that Google is recognising content creators

In a development in Google’s commitment to its Experience-Expertise-Authoritativeness-Trust (E-E-A-T) guidelines regarding online content, Google’s search engine results pages (SERPs) are now officially recognising content creators.

When searching for entities directly through Google, the search engine will label who or what you search for using something called a Knowledge Panel.

For example, in the below images, if you search for “Justin Timberlake” or “Ellesmere Port” on Google, the SERP will provide you with a short description of what you have entered.

Now, as discovered by Search Engine Land, Google is affording the same Knowledge Panel titles to creators of online written content, as seen below.

These take the form of “Content Creator (Speciality Subject)”, and there is a wide range of fields that content creators can be labelled with. These vary from subjects like Agriculture and Art to Weather and Weight Loss, among many others.

Why is this important?

While Google has emphasised the importance of its E-E-A-T guidelines since at least 2023, there hasn’t been much concrete evidence of tangible benefits to conforming to them. This development shows that Google is recognising online content creators as credible, trusted sources on specific topics.

Being labelled as a Content Creator on the SERPs is highly likely to positively impact your website’s SEO (search engine optimisation), as Google is already crediting you as a trusted source in your field. This should help to increase traffic to your website.

How do I become a trusted source on Google?

Google’s E-E-A-T guidelines encourage content creators to focus on optimising content for the intended target audience, rather than Google’s own search algorithms. If your content is relevant, topical, entirely accurate, consistent and clear, your content holds a much better chance of becoming trusted by Google.

Here at Engage Web, creating helpful content that conforms to Google’s E-E-A-T guidelines is a necessity for all of our SEO clients that we provide content for. For content that holds genuine benefits for your business, reach out to our team today.
