Search giant Google has released an update for its Google Now Launcher that makes it available on up to 75% of Android devices.
The app was initially brought out last year for the Nexus 5, but has become available to all portable Android devices which run using the 4.1 Jelly Bean software or later editions.
The tool allows its users to view and manage upcoming appointments as well as browse through useful information such as weather forecasts, public transport information, traffic conditions and sports scores. It had previously been a standalone app when it was released in February this year, but was later integrated with the Nexus as well as Google Play Edition devices.
Once installed on compatible hardware, users can then access the tool from the home screens of their handsets and use the voice command “OK, Google” to start the service and use the company’s popular search engine.
The California-based enterprise is more renowned for its search engine, a tool which has kept many search engine optimisation companies on the ball. However, this latest update comes at a time where the firm is making its services more widely available, possibly as part of an ambitious internet marketing plan to deliver access to the internet to all areas of the world.
Google has many plans in the pipeline and is considering separating its Photos service from its Google+ home, meaning that users would not need to register with the social network to access the Photos section.
