Twitter wins battle of the Superbowl ads

Twitter won the battle of the social media sites during Super Bowl XLVII. More than half of the adverts which were shown during the game that was covered by CBS, a US TV network, featured Twitter. Facebook was mentioned in four of the adverts, while Google+ didn’t receive a single mention.

During the game between the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers, 26 of the featured ads mentioned Twitter. According to research conducted by MarketingLand.com, Instagram and YouTube were both mentioned in the featured ads. During the 2012 Super Bowl there were 59 advertisements in total, with Facebook and Twitter each featuring in eight ads. Twitter will be happy with a 300 per cent increase this year, while Facebook may be a little disappointed with a 50 per cent decrease. Research indicates that Twitter has nearly half a billion members and has become the social network with the fastest growth.

Of the number of people around the world with access to the internet, around 485 million people are believed to have signed up to Twitter, which is about 36 per cent. The number of people with a Twitter account who use the site at least once monthly has increased by 40 per cent and is now thought to be 288 million users. The figures which were provided by Global Web Index, indicate that Twitter is experiencing faster growth than Google+ and Facebook, which no doubt has search engine optimisation (SEO) experts and internet marketers looking very closely at their current campaigns in an effort to leverage this growth on the platform.
