Twitter shares details of how it recommends tweets

Twitter, like many of its social media competitors, is testing new ways of recommending content to users. Not only that, but the platform has decided to share some insights into how it recommends particular tweets to appear in users’ feeds.

One design test that has been recently trialled by the app is the introduction of ‘related tweets’ next to a tweet’s detail page. This can help users of Twitter to find content similar to what they have already been interacting with.

The platform has said that its recommendations are based on the actions users take while they are on the app. Its algorithm then uses this data in order to generate content that best matches with any particular user. In a statement, Twitter has said:

“If you’ve ever seen a Tweet you enjoyed from someone you didn’t follow, you’ve probably seen a recommendation. Think of them as personalised suggestions that are shown to you based on actions you take on Twitter.”

Although it was initially ahead of the curve of artificial intelligence (AI) content back in 2017, AI-generated content feeds are now at the forefront of social media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook and Instagram. While Twitter’s initial efforts were mostly rejected by users years ago, they now may be ready to give it another go.

As a user, it can be difficult to find content that coordinates with your interests and likes, both on social media platforms and other internet services. Similarly, as a producer of content, it can be hard to find the right audience that will properly engage with your content in the way that you’d like. At Engage Web, we specialise in producing content for our clients that is relatable for their target audience and that reaches their desired customer base. Give us a call or get in touch to find out how we can support your content needs.
