Twitter users are set to have another money-making tool in their arsenal, with the wider release of “Ticketed Spaces”.
Twitter’s Spaces was fully launched to the public back in May as a rival to the audio chatroom app Clubhouse, which took the online world by storm early this year. Now, Twitter appears to be regarding its own audio platform as a priority.
With Ticketed Spaces, users will be able to host audio rooms that can only be accessed if attendees pay a fee. In June, the social networking platform opened up registration to test out the paid feature on both Android and iOS devices. With its release to a wider group, however, this capability will be exclusive to iOS devices. Android users need not worry though, as in the official statement of the feature’s release, Twitter highlighted that it hopes to release it on all devices soon:
we want to help people creating cool Spaces make $$$. today, some Hosts will be able create Ticketed Spaces!
we’re experimenting on iOS only for now but we hope to get it to everyone soon. know it’s taking us a little time, but we want to get this right for you! https://t.co/xc68yWkOim

Using Ticketed Spaces, the host of an audio room will be able to charge anything from $1 to $999 for admission, and can choose the number of people allowed in a room. The Verge reports that those chosen to test out the wider release of the feature can keep a total of 97% of any revenue collected from their audio rooms, with Twitter taking a 3% cut. However, if a host earns $50,000 (approximately £36,500) on the platform, Twitter will then take a 20% cut.
This year, it appears Twitter is focusing on expanding its range of money-making tools for its users. Ticketed Spaces follows the release of Twitter’s Super Follow option and the subscription fee option on its newsletter tool Revue.
