If you’ve been writing your own content for a website news feed, you might be one of the many that fall into one of these traps:
Poor quality content
Google doesn’t care about your spelling and grammar, but it does care about what users think of it. Content that’s filled with errors can be a real turnoff for readers, and this inevitably feeds back into poor search rankings when they quickly leave your website. You also need to engage readers with interesting content, so this means taking the time to research newsworthy topics for your articles.
Overdoing keywords
It may be tempting to cram in as many keywords as possible into your news feed items, but this often leads to grammatical errors, and unnatural and repetitive phrasing. Experienced writers are usually more creative at inserting keywords naturally, but even they have their limits. The effect of keywords is diminishing these days, so it’s generally better to prioritise user experience.
Poor structure
Instead of writing extremely long paragraphs, consider using shorter paragraphs and presenting information with constructs such as bullet points and ordered lists. This is especially important with the rising use of mobile devices because of the limited screen size.
As search engine optimisation has drifted away from the traditional keyword-based approaches, it has become increasingly important to consider how visitors experience your website. Writing good quality content takes time, however, so outsourcing to a news writing service can be a viable alternative to writing your own material or dealing with freelancers.
