Teenage girl’s ‘bucket list’ becomes Twitter hit

Alice Pyne, a 15 year old girl who has Hodgkin’s lymphoma, has attracted attention worldwide after her ‘bucket list’ became one of the most talked about subjects on Twitter. Alice’s mum encouraged her daughter to make a list of all the things she wants to achieve before she dies. The idea was taken from the 2008 film starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman, who portray terminally ill men who create a list of things to do before ‘kicking the bucket’.

Some users of Twitter believed that getting her name to trend would be fulfilling one of her wishes, but her ‘bucket list’ doesn’t actually contain any reference to Twitter. Instead she has wished for a visit to Cadbury World, where she can eat loads of chocolate, entering her dog Mabel into a dog show and meet Take That. Some of her wishes like, swimming with sharks and visiting Kenya, won’t happen as Alice can’t leave the United Kingdom.

Within days some of Alice’s wishes came true, with a trip to see Take That in concert and more. Alice is also excited by the money raised for Cancer Research, all within days, which will be used to help other people. Celebrities, which include Philip Schofield, Rio Ferdinand and even the Prime Minister are supporting Alice’s campaign for donors to donate bone marrow.

Alice’s story shows just how powerful social media can be, enabling even the smallest business to gain worldwide recognition in a short period of time. Search engine optimisation strategies should include social media as part of a well-planned SEO campaign.
