Social platform tests potential change to favourites tool

Online networking site Twitter is testing a new feature that sees favourite tweets acting like re-tweets, but not all users seem to be thrilled by this experiment.

The latest feature to be tested by the network displays certain tweets that have been ‘favourited’ by accounts that a user follows, with these tweets appearing within the users news feed in a similar fashion to re-tweets. It is being trialled for a limited time before developers decide whether or not to make this a permanent part of the social platform, with the test reaching a large number of users since it was first added to the site last month.

However, some members are not too keen on the feature and have been voicing their opinions on the subject, claiming that they are seeing more content from accounts that they do not follow.

Online news providers believe that should it become a permanent addition to the site, then it could see a change in the way that users choose to interact with the favourites tool. However, as the test has received criticism from the site’s member base, following its review, it could well be dropped altogether.

At the moment, the favourites tool is used in a similar manner to a like on rival site Facebook, with users finding it as a useful way to acknowledge a specific tweet or as a way to end a series of interactions with other accounts.

Twitter has yet to comment on its latest experimental feature.
