Six simple tips to understand your Facebook Ads

Running Facebook Ads can be confusing with all the numbers, buttons and settings to take in. If it’s all felt a bit too much, you’re not the only one! Many business owners start running ads to grow their business, but then get stuck.

These six tips will help you make sense of your ads and feel more confident using them.

1. Know What You Want

Before you spend any money on ads, ask yourself one thing: What do I want this ad to do?
Do you want:

• More people visiting your website?
• More sales?
• More people to know about your business?

Pick one main goal. That way, you can build your ad to match. It also helps you check later if the ad actually worked.

2. Learn the Key Numbers

Facebook shows you lots of stats, but only a few really matter:

• Click-through rate (CTR) – this shows how many people clicked your ad. A higher number means your ad is catching people’s attention.
• Cost per click (CPC) – this shows how much you’re paying each time someone clicks. Lower is better.
• Conversions – this is the action you want people to take, like buying, signing up, or sending an enquiry.
• Return on ad spend (ROAS) – this tells you how much money you made compared to what you spent. If you don’t sell online, look at cost per result (CPR) instead.

Keep checking these numbers to see which ads are working.

3. Use the Tools Facebook Gives You

Facebook has tools to help you track and improve your ads:

• Ads Manager – this is your dashboard. It shows all your ad results. Always check it when reviewing your ads.
• Facebook Pixel – this is a small bit of code for your website, which helps track who visits your site and what they do. Learn more about this here*.
• Audience Insights – this shows you more about the people seeing your ads.

These tools make a big difference, so use them all.

4. Try Different Versions

Sometimes, small changes can make your ad work much better. Try switches like:
• New pictures or videos
• Different headlines or messages
• A new button, like “Shop Now” or “Learn More”

Only change one thing at a time. That way, you’ll know exactly what made the ad better or worse.

5. Don’t Panic Over One Bad Day

If your ad doesn’t do well for a day, don’t worry. Look at how it does over a full week or a month, as this gives you a better picture. Remember: it’s normal to have ups and downs.

6. Learn as You Go

After you’ve run a few ads, you’ll start to notice patterns. Use what you’ve learned to:

• Get better at picking the right people to see your ad
• Write better messages
• Spend your money more wisely

Facebook Ads get easier with practice. The more you test and tweak, the better they’ll do.
