Twitter is currently experimenting with a new feature that would permit users to tweet using their voice.
The feature, which has been launched as a test on users with iOS devices, will let users record voice clips to publish as a tweet. This form of communication on the platform joins the many existing ways already available, including photos, polls, videos and GIFs.
Twitter announced the test of the feature last week via a tweet through the company’s official account in which it explained that it is adding voice tweets to give the platform a more human touch, allowing users to convey conversational nuances that can sometimes be lost in translation.

The company believes this will further allow users to add more flair and personality to their accounts. For the initial test period, this feature will only be available to a select number of users but it is believe that all iOS users should have access to it in the next few weeks.
Whilst only planned for iOS devices at present, all users, regardless of device being used to access the site, will be able to see this type of tweet in their feed and have the ability to listen to them.
Furthermore, voice tweets are limited to original tweets. This means it is not possible for users to reply to tweets and retweets with a voice tweet. It is not yet known whether this will change as it could be seen as an opportunity to further increase user engagement.
This testing phase will prove crucial as users discover the best way to integrate it into their tweeting habits. It is an opportunity for businesses to experiment with the type of content they make use of on the platform.
