Supermarket giant Lidl has announced it has become the first supermarket to sell a collection of its products on TikTok Shop.
From tomorrow, Lidl will begin selling 3,000 product bundles for its high-protein product range at a price of £5. The company says this is a much-reduced price, as the bundles should be worth £30. All proceeds from the sale are set to go the NSPCC.
The bundles will include high-protein products including whey protein, “pop chips”, pancake mix, flapjacks and peanut butter, but will also include specific Lidl merchandise items in the form of towels and resistance bands.
Although Lidl is not the first major brand to begin selling products on TikTok Shop, the built-in eCommerce platform of short-form video platform TikTok, it does appear to be the very first supermarket to sell its products there.
Joanna Gomer, Lidl’s marketing director in Britain, said of the decision:
“With the number of TikTok shoppers growing rapidly, we’re proud to be the first supermarket meeting our customers directly on the platform with our unique offering, creating these exclusive bundles to showcase our new exciting products.”
Research on TikTok Shop released by Lidl suggests that over 500 million TikTok users purchase products on TikTok Shop, making it a serious platform* for brands of varying sizes to make use of when attempting to grow and reach new markets.
