Is Google’s AI feature changing the way people search?

Google’s new AI Mode is changing the way both people and businesses are using the web. Instead of just providing links when someone conducts a search, AI Mode can give answers to user’s questions and even help them complete tasks. This is time spent not clicking around but getting things done.

This can truly be a game-changer for businesses. Imagine booking a trip, comparing products, or making reservations at a table in a restaurant – all from the search page, without leaving it!

Google’s AI Mode has teamed up with services such as OpenTable, Ticketmaster and Booksy, so users might make immediate reservations or get answers right away. It is just like having an intelligent assistant right in your browser.

According to Google Search’s Vice President of Product, Robby Stein:

“AI is making Google Search radically more helpful, so you can ask any question on your mind and get things done”.

The system understands long and complicated questions, and it remembers what you’ve asked before. That means it can give better answers over time, tailored to your business’ needs. Teams can even share their search conversations, making it easier to work together without repeating information.

Google says that AI Mode is now live in over 180 countries, with specific support for languages including Korean, Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese. This makes it simpler for international businesses to get access to local information wherever they happen to be working.

However, not everyone is happy. Some news websites are reporting that they’re losing traffic as a result of people not having to click on links anymore. Traffic to sites like CNN and The New York Times has dropped as much as 30%, reports say. Publishers are worried, but they can’t opt out of AI Mode without being delisted from Google Search entirely.

Still, Google believes AI Mode is allowing people and businesses to do more with less. It’s powered by a special version of their Gemini 2.5 AI that’s able to understand text, images and video all at the same time. For business owners, this could mean faster research, smarter decisions and more efficient collaboration.
