Facebook has now updated its Creator Studio to enable posts to be scheduled to photo-sharing platform Instagram and published at a later date.
TechCrunch first reported the discovery of this functionality earlier this week. It was reported that the new scheduling feature is available to business accounts, and includes both regular Instagram posts as well as videos posted to IGTV. Posts can be scheduled to either sections of the site to be published within the next six months.
Prior to this update, Instagram users wishing to schedule posts in advance had to use third party tools. This update is the first time users have been able schedule ahead to the platform directly through Facebook’s services.
Now that Facebook is offering users a way to schedule posts, some of the limitations from these third parties will become obsolete. Previously, users would not be able to schedule multi-image posts and there was no support for posts to IGTV.
While users are now able to schedule single image posts, multi-image posts and upload to IGTV, the feature is not yet universally available to all users.
In order to be able to schedule posts, users must meet the following criteria:
• Have a Facebook Business Account
• Have an Instagram Creator or Business Account
• Link the Instagram account to the Facebook Business Page
Once the user has met this criteria, then they can start to schedule posts through Facebook Creator Studio and this is done by clicking the Instagram button at the top of the page.
For content creators, being able to schedule a post ahead of time on any platform is important as it enables them to plan and work on a whole campaign without having to log in to post each time they want a specific post to go live.
