The dawn of a new year is often a time to start thinking strategically about your business – and you may be wondering how this translates to your content.
Whether you’re an everyday blogger or it’s a once in a blue moon occurrence, you probably have a good understanding of how important written content can be for your SEO (search engine optimisation). But is there a set number you should be posting? Is less more? Here, we aim to find out.
Is there a magic number of blogs needed to generate traffic?
When it comes to writing content, one thing the internet can agree on is this: more is more.
This doesn’t mean you should be blogging about what you had for tea last night (unless, of course, you’re a food blogger), but it does mean that Google and its users appreciate websites that contribute useful information. It means that the more you publish high-quality content that informs the reader, the better your ranking will be in the SERPs (search engine results pages).
So, while there may not be an exact formula for the number of blogs and/or articles (there is a difference, which you can read about here) you should be posting, it’s good practice to commit to a regular schedule – and don’t get discouraged if you don’t see results straightaway. SEO is a long game, but if you want the best possible chance to rank highly in your industry, it’s one worth playing.
Prioritise quality over quantity
That being said, nothing will damage your ranking more than content that is of low quality.
AI- (artificial intelligence) generated content, copy lifted directly from another source, or text that contains poor spelling and grammar can harm how your website performs. When writing content, always remember Google’s E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness) guidelines. Is what you’re saying fresh? Is it relevant to your target audience?
By posting consistent blogs packed with informative content, you’re not only showing Google that you’re an authority in your field, but you’re giving yourself a better chance of appearing in the search results of users who are specifically looking for what you’re writing about. This way, your audience becomes more refined, as your content is geared towards potential clients or customers who are actively looking for the information you’re providing.
