Google’s helpful content goal hits roadblock

Despite the anticipation and excitement surrounding Google’s new helpful content update from search engine optimisation (SEO) content creators, figures within the search engine have provided some concerning updates regarding the current state of the algorithm change.

The update, which promised to deprioritise so-called ‘unhelpful’ content that often serves to mislead users, was designed to promote relatable and engaging content. However, high-ranking Google officials such as Danny Sullivan and John Mueller have been keeping people up to date, noting that users are yet to experience the update’s desired results.

Tweeting about the update, Sullivan said “Update isn’t done”, reassuring users that the process is not a quick-fix issue. Additionally, Mueller asked people to give the changes a bit more time, arguing that “Updates don’t necessarily mean a big giant shift”. However, these reassuring messages have not helped to calm the moods of content creators who were expecting the update to bring considerable changes to Google’s search engine results. With Google leading users to believe that the helpful content update would mark a major change to their algorithm, it is understandable that many people aren’t too impressed.

Sullivan continued by suggesting that the helpful content update is one of Google’s more important algorithm overhauls and that SEO content producers need to give it some time before coming to any drastic conclusions.

Despite Google’s relaxed pleas, updates of this nature that alter search rankings can play a part in the performances of businesses throughout a wide variety of industries. Ranking high on Google is a crucial goal for so many companies, meaning transparency from Google regarding its search engine’s content preferences is important.

Even with transparency from Google, it can be hard to gain a high ranking on the search engine. However, Engage Web can make this process easier and less stressful for you.
