Google set to provide feedback on rejected changes to GBP

If you’ve ever tried to update your Google Business Profile (GBP) and ended up feeling like you were ghosted by a robot, you’re not alone.

Previously, submitting an appeal felt like a complete shot in the dark that could go one of two ways. Either it gets accepted – in which case, great! Or, it gets rejected, without any real explanation as to why.

But gone are those days, as Google has finally decided to spill the beans. As of July 2025, the Google Business Profile Appeal Tool now shows why your appeal was rejected. Yes, actual reasons. Not just a vague “no,” but a detailed “here’s why we said no, and maybe don’t do that again.”

What’s new?

  • Rejection date
  • Decision details
  • Specific reasons like “can’t update business category”

These details mean you can now approach your next appeal with a bit more strategy and a bit less blind hope.

Receiving this information also means less time wasted guessing what went sideways and more time actually fixing it, which is particularly useful for small businesses who don’t have as much time available to them.

Google’s move toward transparency here is a step in the right direction. Sure, it’s not perfect, and yes, we’d love even more clarity (maybe a “how to fix it” guide next?), but for now, we’ll take it.

Next time your appeal gets rejected, don’t despair. Just check the new rejection reasons, adjust your strategy, and try again.
