Search company Google has announced an update for its Google Maps app that integrates another of its services, Gmail, and its appointments scheduler.
The latest update, which is available for Android and iOS versions of the maps service, has been programmed to automatically display the location of all of users’ meetings and appointments that have been set using Gmail, meaning that they can save time and the effort of having to search and navigate through the two different platforms.
As a part of the Californian firm’s update, search results that would normally be made in the search bar are set to directly appear on the map along with a brief description of each nearby location, a feature that the company claims will permit its users to make quicker decisions.
The company – which is perhaps more well-known for its search engine, a key focus point for many search engine optimisation businesses – has also enhanced the service’s Explore function, which organises and breaks down a number of restaurants, attractions and other amenities that a user can explore in their current location.
The latest Maps development comes within several days of the firm’s announcement that it has upgraded its desktop version, permitting users to pinpoint certain locations on the map and calculate the exact distance between the two. This feature is set to be useful for many different types of user – including runners and cyclists, who aim to accurately measure the distances covered in their workouts.
