If you use Google’s Business Profile (GBP) Q&A API to manage customer questions, we’re afraid it’s time to start planning for a change.
Earlier this month, developers were told that the API would no longer support posting, editing, or removing content, as this tool will be discontinued from November 3, 2025. In other words, you won’t be able to manage Q&A automatically anymore. The only option will be doing it manually through the Business Profile dashboard. Google is keeping access to existing data until the November cut-off, so there’s still a short window to download or export what you need.
For small businesses, this might not seem so bad, as many will handle questions directly, without the need of an automated assistant. However, for larger organisations, this API will be considered a huge time saver when it comes to responding to questions left on the profile. It may allow messaging to be consistent and make it easier when trying to stay on top of customer queries. Losing it will require more hands-on work, slower responses and possibly some gaps in customer engagement.
The bottom line? This is another reminder that Google’s ecosystem never stands still. If you are a company that relies on heavy automation, especially when it comes to your GBP, it will be a good idea to prepare for this change sooner rather than later.
