A significant breakthrough, Facebook has said that it is going to automatically post all the videos on its website as reels, regardless of their size and orientation.
The move is to simplify the video-sharing format on the social website to make uploading and sharing of videos easier for users.
The feature update will also be renaming the “Video” tab to the “Reels” tab.
For businesses, the transition presents opportunities and difficulties. One side is that the ease of publishing ability of the process will provide access to more creative tools, allowing businesses to produce improved video content. This allows for more participative and richer content, which can potentially introduce the brand to a broader audience.
Automatic remodelling of all videos into reels may, however, be a complex process. For instance, horizontal videos might not look as desired in the vertical reel style, and this might affect the viewing mode. Secondly, merging longer videos with shorter ones might not be appropriate for everyone, and this might have effects on content consumption.
While these issues exist, Facebook promises the website will remain supportive of all forms of video content, such as short videos, long videos and live videos. What this means is that companies can still use different formats of video to interact with their audience.
As the updates are set to be rolled out around the world over the next few months, business owners have to be up to speed and adjust their video strategies to fit. By adopting the new tools and formats, companies can continue to prosper on Facebook’s changing platform.
