Google has recently starting testing giving users the ability to add annotations to their performance reports within search console.
This is something that many have been asking Google to introduce for some time, and this testing process shows that Google has listened to, and acted upon, these requests.
Although this is not available to everyone, a select few have been given access to try this out, with users taking to X to break the news.
When viewing a report, you might see the blue “Add Annotation” text appear in the top right corner, as well as a banner going across the top of the screen that says:
“New! Click on “Add Annotation” or right-click on the chart to annotate key insights and explain fluctuations in data”.
Once the annotation is added, it will appear at the bottom of the chart above the assigned date – and, once hovered over, it will show you the annotation itself.
As mentioned, this test has only been rolled out to certain accounts. There are a few third party add ons that offer this option; however, it would make things much easier to use the built-in option.
If testing process goes well, we expect this to be rolled out to more users, and hopefully it will eventually become a mainstay within the platform.
