Study shows searchers choosing AI over Google

A new study of over 1,000 people has found that many people using the internet to find instant answers to their queries are beginning to prefer artificial intelligence (AI) tools as opposed to Google search.

Produced by Future Publishing and surveying around 500 US and 500 UK citizens, the study brings Google’s place as the go-to for online information into question.

It has found that 27% of US residents surveyed use AI tools over traditional search engines. The reasons for this include ease of use, accuracy and relevance, saving time and providing more detailed answers. One surveyed individual was quoted as saying:

“AI gives more accurate and direct responses than Google.”

While 27% may not seem like a particularly overwhelming percentage, especially for a dominant force such as Google, many people surveyed understood that AI’s full capabilities as a search engine alternative have yet to be reached.

However, those who still have reservations about AI’s capabilities in comparison to traditional search engines need only look at Google’s own ventures into AI. After a fairly disastrous launch, Google’s AI Overview feature caused some users to find extreme methods of removing it from their own search results.

Will AI take over search?

As AI becomes more prevalent online and throughout everyday life, it seems only obvious that it will influence how we search the internet more and more. However, with Google investing significant resources into its own AI efforts, including Gemini, this is not to say the AI revolution will spell any kind of end times for them.

Whether it’s through traditional search engines or AI-powered results, your website’s authority in search can be displayed when people search for answers relating to your industry. To learn how we can give you more power online, book a call with a member of our team today.
