A recent report has revealed that Google-owned sites account for more than 5% of all web traffic in the UK.
The results of the study, which was conducted by market research company SimilarWeb, provided a number of revealing statistics regarding Google’s UK visitors.
Around half of the web giant’s traffic is experienced by its search tool, while YouTube boasts around 25%. Gmail accounted for 12% of visits.
Perhaps as expected, Google’s sites received most of their traffic in the UK from Google Search itself. Of the ten most searched sites from Google.co.uk, almost a quarter (23%) of links pointed to Google’s services, including Google+, YouTube and Gmail.
Sponsored links on Google Search accounted for around 1 in 20 user clicks.
SimilarWeb also found that Google’s search engine attracted more than a billion UK visits in August, showing that Search still accounts for the core of the web giant’s business despite it branching out in recent years.
SimilarGroup’s brand and strategy head, Daniel Buchuk, explained that with advertising on search engines, Google arguably provides the best solution to reaching audiences as part of an internet marketing campaign.
Google has featured heavily in the news this week following the announcement of its new laptop built around its Chrome operating system. The Chromebook 11 is one of Google’s more affordable hardware offerings, with an RRP of £174.
The SimilarWeb research further highlights the importance of Google for brands looking to push high impact marketing campaigns and SMEs working on SEO strategies.
