Is WordPress good for SEO?

With artificial intelligence (AI) website builders and drag-and-drop platforms launching all the time, it’s easy to wonder whether WordPress is still the right choice in 2026.

The honest answer is that yes, it absolutely is.

WordPress isn’t just hanging around because people are used to it. It’s still one of the most powerful, flexible and reliable website platforms out there. In fact, it continues to power a huge chunk of the web because it gives businesses something many closed platforms don’t: freedom.

Need a simple brochure website? WordPress can do that.

Want a high-performing blog, an online shop, a membership area, a booking system or a custom feature built around the way your business works? WordPress can do that too.

That flexibility is a big reason why businesses still choose it. You’re not boxed into rigid templates or limited features. With the right setup, WordPress can grow with you, adapt to your goals and support your marketing properly.

It’s also still a brilliant choice for SEO, which stands for search engine optimisation. In simple terms, that means making your website easier for Google and other search engines to understand, trust and show to the right people.

WordPress gives you a strong starting point because it lets you control the important bits behind each page. For example, metadata is the page title and description that can appear in search results. It’s often the first thing someone sees before clicking, so being able to edit it properly can make a big difference.

Then there’s schema, which is extra information added behind the scenes to help search engines understand your content more clearly. For example, schema can tell Google whether a page is about a service, a product, a review, an event, a local business or a frequently asked question. Visitors don’t usually see it, but search engines do.

WordPress also makes it easy to create useful blog content, organise pages clearly and use trusted SEO plugins like Rank Math or Yoast. These tools can guide you on titles, descriptions, readability, keywords and technical improvements, so you’re not guessing.

When content, speed, structure and clarity all matter, WordPress gives you the control you need to build a website that has a real chance of being found on Google.

What about AI?

Rather than replacing WordPress, AI has made it even stronger. From content support and chatbots to image optimisation and smarter SEO tools, WordPress can work beautifully alongside modern AI technology.

Another major advantage is ownership. With WordPress, your website is yours. You control your hosting, data, design and long-term costs. You’re not stuck inside someone else’s platform with rising monthly fees and limited exit options.

Of course, WordPress isn’t perfect for every situation. If you need a tiny, one-page site live in 10 minutes, a simple builder might do the job. But if you want a professional, scalable website that can support serious growth, WordPress is still a fantastic choice.
