Google’s new update set to enhance search quality

Google’s new update set to enhance search quality

Google is set to release a new core update and a number of spam updates in an attempt to provide a 40% reduction in unhelpful content from searches.

Earlier this week, Google began to roll out its first set of updates of the year. One of Google’s directors, Elizabeth Tucker, stated:

“We expect that the combination of this update and our previous efforts will collectively reduce low-quality, unoriginal content in search results by 40%.”

The full rollout of this update could take up to a month to complete, with multiple systems set to be updated and released during this period.

Some of the main talking points of this update will include:

Scaled content abuse search spam

This is the process of reducing any method of producing content that is made for the sole purpose of ranking in searches. Google have claimed that producing content purely to boost search rankings, regardless of how it’s done, is against their guidelines.

Expired domain abuse is now spam

This is the process of purchasing expired domains and repurposing them in an attempt to improve search rankings, despite the low-quality content they possess. This method is used to trick users into thinking the content on the domain relates to the previous owner and the old site, when it is not.

These updates will definitely improve search engines from a user’s point of view and will benefit those sites that are offering genuine and useful content.
