Was your account hit by the Instagram ‘bug’?

Thousands of Instagram users were left confused earlier this week, after mistakenly being told by the platform that their accounts had been permanently suspended.

The message ‘We suspended your account on October 31, 2022’ was seen by many unknowing users when they tried to open Instagram on their devices, followed by the statement ‘There are 30 days remaining to disagree with this decision’. This disconcerting statement would cause understandable confusion among innocent Instagram enjoyers simply trying to get their daily fix of content from their social circle and amusing videos of various animals.

Recipients of the message were told their accounts:

• Do not follow Instagram’s community guidelines
• Were to be disabled if they were unable to confirm their account’s legitimacy
• Were invisible to other Instagram users

Typically, Instagram announced it was looking into the so-called ‘bug’ and apologised to users for any inconvenience caused. However, when it announced that the issue had been solved, a number of users were on hand to remind them that their accounts were still suspended.

While issues such as this are often little more than minor inconveniences for the majority, if you require access to Instagram for professional or branding purposes, bugs of this nature can cause unwanted complications.

This latest fiasco from a Meta-owned social media platform comes just one week after a major outage affected instant messaging service WhatsApp, which also left thousands of users unable to send and receive messages on the platform.

It can be hard to build a worthy online presence on platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, especially if these apps are suffering from issues such as this. However, at Engage Web, we are on hand to help your brand improve and maximise its presence online, so be sure to contact our team now to see what we can do for you.
