Social media trends to look out for in 2024

2023 saw a lot of significant changes to the world of social media – from Twitter’s rebrand, to Instagram’s Threads and the rise of ChatGPT and AI (artificial intelligence) content.

Although it is hard to predict what’s next for social media, below we have put together some potential trends that you could take advantage of in 2024.

YouTube marketing

Despite ChatGTP and TikTok seeming more popular than YouTube as a marketing tool, YouTube can be more impactful as it is actually the second biggest search engine in the world.
So, although it is technically a social media platform, many marketers utilise it both for social media purposes and as if it were a search engine.

The growth of Threads

In July 2023, Meta launched its new social media platform, Threads.

This is a text-based app built by Instagram, which many considered their answer to X. As of November 2023, it was reported that the app had over 140 million users, with that figure set to rise. With this being a new platform, it is relatively niche, and is set to rise in popularity as more people access it and become familiar with it.

X’s continued monetisation

Ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter (or as it is now known, X) he has made many changes to the platform, consequently receiving a variety of reviews and opinions.

One of these changes was his announcement in April that requires users to pay a subscription fee to receive a blue verified tick on their account. Due to the large number of changes to the platforms and the mixed reviews they have been receiving, X’s ad revenue is down by over 55%. They will most likely continue to make changes to the platform in 2024, some of which are likely to evolve and develop their monetisation.
