Bosses of Edinburgh trams made a huge error when they changed the gender of a famous thoroughfare in the city. Princes Street had been closed for more than ten months, but Transport Initiative Edinburgh created a road sign which read ‘Access to Princess Street restricted’, causing confusion and anger among residents.
The street in Edinburgh is a part of history, named after the Duke of Rothesay later to become King George IV, and Frederick, Duke of York. The Transport Initiative company were left shamefaced as the street which is well known throughout the world, failed to be recognised in its home town. The Scottish council receive numerous complaints each year regarding spelling and grammatical errors.
Occurrences such as this cause hilarity among some people and leave other residents annoyed that such errors happen. More commonly, this type of spelling or grammatical error humiliates the company responsible, casting doubt on their professional abilities.
