Google is constantly trying to make their business listings platform more secure to ensure all profiles are trustworthy.
One way it has done this recently is by encouraging users to submit a video of their workspace to prove they are a genuine business. And by encourage, we mean force.
We’ve noticed that, as of recently, the only option that Google will offer is this video verification option, which has caused many inconveniences for multiple reasons. Not only can this be very time consuming to do, but it can also take a long time for Google to approve. Alongside this, it can be difficult for businesses who don’t have an actual office space or one with little branding. For example, if you run a company from home and only work out of a home office, it can be difficult to meet the criteria of what should be included in this video.
This does make sense as to why Google is pushing this option as it can’t be forged the same way email or text verification could be. However, one further issue that impacts this is you can’t review your video before submitting it. So, once you’ve recorded your video, you only have the option to submit it or re-record it.
However, this is where Google’s new update makes this process slightly easier to get right first time as you are now able to watch the video back before making your decision to submit it or not. This is useful as there might be things in the video that you have missed out that you might not have picked up on when recording it, increasing the likelihood of it getting accepted first time. This is also beneficial, as Google will not give you feedback on your video, so you won’t be aware of why it was rejected.
Here is what a representative of Google had to say about this update:
“Now, you can review your recordings before submitting, ensuring clarify and accuracy – saving you valuable time and reducing the need for resubmissions.”
