Google Ads’ new approach to brand guidelines

Advertisers who use Google Ads must ensure that their brand guidelines are up to date by March.

All users must ensure that their business names and logos are documented by next month or they will face automated changes to their campaigns. The date has been pushed back a couple of times in the past, but has now been confirmed, and is Google’s most recent effort to standardise brand presentation. This will allow users to have greater control over their online presence.

If this instruction is not followed and no action is taken, Google will automatically select “Top Performing” business names and logos, based on your campaign’s data.

Why is this important?

Possessing a clear brand identity online will enhance ad performance as well as your online reputation, providing you with an advantage over your competitors. Your brand guidelines must be updated, therefore, to stay in line with your marketing strategies.

This message was presented on the Google Ads interface, encouraging users to update their brand guidelines with the following message:

“Business name and logos are now a part of brand guidelines, which lets you control how your brand appears in ads. To keep using your preferred business name and logos for this campaign, add them to brand guidelines. If no updates are made by March 2025, the top-performing business name and logos associated with this campaign will be used instead.”

At Engage Web, we would encourage anyone who uses Google Ads to make sure all necessary changes have been made as soon as possible to avoid any problems being caused to your campaigns. For more information, you can reach out to our team today.
