Google has made big changes to its AI Mode in Search. It now works in over 180 more countries, including the UK, and has new tools set to make it smarter and more useful.
One of the biggest updates is called ‘agentic capability’. This means the AI (artificial intelligence) can now help people do tasks like booking a table at a restaurant or buying tickets for an event directly within search results. For example, someone can ask for a place to eat with outdoor seating at 7pm, and the AI will find options using websites like OpenTable. It will even show links to book straight away. This works thanks to Google’s tools like Project Mariner, Maps and the Knowledge Graph, and partners like Ticketmaster.
Another new feature is ‘personalised suggestions’. In the US, people who’ve joined the AI Mode test will see food and restaurant ideas based on what they’ve searched before. If someone often looks for vegan food or quiet places, for example, the AI will show more of those. People can choose to turn this off or change what the AI uses.
Google has also added ‘link sharing’. This lets users send their AI search results to friends or family. They can then carry on the search or make plans together. This has been designed to help with tasks like organising trips or events.
These updates show that Google wants Search to be more like a conversation and more helpful for real-life tasks. The company says people like how AI Mode handles longer and more detailed questions, and it plans to add support for more languages soon.
Right now, these features are only for Google AI Ultra subscribers in specific locations, but they’ll be available in more countries soon.
