Google has expanded the reach of its AI Overviews function to offer services in more than 100 countries.
Google’s AI Overviews, formerly known as Search Generative Experience (SGE), was initially made available to search engine users in the United States following its introduction in May 2023.
Following extensive testing, Google’s AI Overviews feature was expanded beyond the U.S. in August, where it became available with local language support to users in the UK, India, Indonesia, Japan, Brazil and Mexico.
As detailed in our article ‘What is Google’s Search Generative Experience’, Google’s AI Overviews uses AI technology to synthesise information obtained from various sources across the web to provide a detailed answer to a search query.
These detailed answers, known as AI Overviews, provide the user with a response to their search query at the top of the search engine results page, removing the need to click through to a website listing.
In an update to their blog on the 28 October, Google wrote:
“In our largest expansion yet, we’re launching AI Overviews in more than 100 countries and making them accessible in more languages — helping you search in a whole new way, no matter what questions are on your mind.”
The rollout of Google’s AI Overviews to more than 100 countries will begin this week and is expected to be gradual process. You can view a full list of included countries here.
If you’re in any of the supported countries, keep your eye out for this fancy feature appearing on your search engine results page.
