Let’s say you’ve just started an exciting new business. Odds are, you’re probably inundated with tasks – and while building a website or writing blogs might be somewhere on your priority list, it can be tempting to cut corners to save some time.
Enter ChatGPT – a revolutionary tool that can create content for you in the blink of an eye (literally). All you need to do is give it a prompt, and this clever little AI (artificial intelligence) chatbot will do the rest for you.
For many, it sounds too good to be true. Content created in less than a minute, which would have otherwise taken hours – perhaps days? For busy business owners, we can certainly see why it would be tempting.
Below, however, we’ve listed a number of reasons as to why it could be a good idea to rethink using AI to write your content entirely.
Your content won’t be original
While ChatGPT may be clever, what it doesn’t have is your originality.
ChatGPT works by pulling everything it can find on the subject you’ve requested from sources on the internet, and streamlining it into coherent content.
While this may be impressive, what it means is that everything it writes comes from content that already exists – meaning it won’t produce anything fresh.
Why is this a problem? Well, because Google’s E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness) guidelines mean that the search engine prioritises content that provides reliable information based on experience. Basically, it wants its users to find only the most relevant, accurate data out there. If your website is churning out content taken from other sources, not only will it lack depth and personality, but it could also throw up some other issues, like plagiarism.
Information may be inaccurate
The internet is a vast place, and there’s a lot of misinformation out there. Sadly, for all its merits, ChatGPT is not quite smart enough to wheedle out fact from fiction. We can’t blame it for that though – it can be difficult even as a human.
If you’ve built a business in a certain industry, you’re likely to be very informative in that specific area. ChatGPT, however, will not share that same depth of knowledge. This is just one of the reasons why copying and pasting information taken directly from the chatbot can be detrimental to your website – because any information that pulls through may be misleading, outdated, or downright factually incorrect.
Should I be avoiding ChatGPT altogether?
Despite the above points, there are instances where the chatbot can be useful.
If you’re struggling to think of an idea for a blog post, for example, using AI to give you some ideas can prove fruitful. However, the chatbot should be used as merely a starting off point for you to then take and run with yourself – nothing more.
