Zuckerburg releases guide to not using Facebook

Zuckerburg releases guide to not using Facebook

There could be a bit of tension around the Zuckerburg household’s Thanksgiving table this year, with Mark’s sister having a new book out, in which she takes a swipe at the world of social networking.

Aimed at children, the book tells the story of Dot, a girl who is seemingly obsessed with her mobile devices. It is not all bad of course, as it is a kids’ book. Randi Zuckerburg explained on her own newsfeed:

“Dot loves technology. A LOT. She’s obsessed with her devices (sound familiar?), but with a little push, she’s reminded that life’s a little bit richer when you look up from the screen.”

To many people, it may seem strange that the sister of one of the men responsible for social media’s popularity is hitting out at the culture. In reality though, it is more a swipe at people who find themselves controlled by the world.

Almost in an effort to placate the social system, Miss Zuckerburg has written Dot Complicated; a book aimed more at adults. This is more of a personal account of Randi’s journey with social networking.

The blurb on this book reads:

“It’s a personal and professional story with a fresh guide to understanding technology and how it influences and informs our lives online and off.”

That is more what we’re used to from the family then. A sequel to the kids’ book, explaining Dot’s horror at losing her charger, could be in the offing.
