If your Google Business Profile only gets updated when your opening hours change at Christmas, you could be missing a useful opportunity.
As well as displaying your address, reviews, opening hours and contact details, your profile gives you somewhere to post regular updates about your business. These posts can appear when potential customers find you through Google Search or Maps, which means they can reach people who are already actively looking for what you offer.
So, what should you actually post?
Promote offers and special deals
Running a discount, seasonal promotion or limited-time offer? Your Google Business Profile is a good place to shout about it.
Be specific about what the customer gets and when the offer ends. You can also direct people straight to the relevant page on your website rather than leaving them to search for it themselves.
Show what you sell
Don’t assume people already know everything your business provides.
Use posts to highlight particular products or services, especially ones that are new, seasonal or particularly important to your business. A restaurant could showcase a new menu, while a tradesperson might highlight a service people commonly need at that time of year.
Share recent work
If you’ve completed a great project, post it. Before and after photographs, finished jobs and customer success stories can give potential customers a much better idea of what you actually do. Real photographs from your business are often far more useful than another generic stock image.
Tell people what’s happening
Events, new team members, business anniversaries, new premises and other company news can all make worthwhile posts.
You can also share useful advice related to your industry. A solicitor might answer a common question, for example, while a garden centre could share timely gardening advice.
The important thing is that every post doesn’t need to be a sales pitch.
Keep it useful
A good Google Business Profile should feel current. Posting regularly gives potential customers more information about your business and another reason to click through, call, book or visit.
Keep posts short, use good quality images and give people an obvious next step where appropriate.
Most importantly, post things your customers might genuinely want to know. That’s a much better starting point than posting simply because you think Google expects you to.
