Recent reports in the technology world suggest that OpenAI, the company behind the well-known artificial intelligence (AI) tool ChatGPT, is set to announce its very own search product in the coming weeks, if not days.
According to Reuters, OpenAI is scheduled to announce this new product during an upcoming company event. Not much is known about the exact functionalities of the search engine, but it is thought that the product will be fully integrated with ChatGPT, allowing users to give search queries to ChatGPT and receive information and citations from the internet.
If OpenAI does launch its own search engine, it will be aiming to capitalise on, or be the catalyst of, a new approach to internet search.
Google itself has turned its attention to the ongoing development of AI of late. The company’s annual I/O conference is due to take place this week, with a number of the company’s new products and announcement expected to revolve around AI.
So far, Google’s forays into AI, including Bard (now known as Gemini), haven’t been successful in evolving its primary search product in order to improve user experience. With AI’s growing relevance and importance in the tech industry, it may only be a matter of time before it begins to dominate the world’s biggest search engine products.
